On March 3rd, 2025, Dr. Allison Skerrett, professor and director of teacher education at the University of Texas at Austin, presented her research on raciolinguistics across transnational educational contexts. In this talk, Dr. Skerrett draws on her research with secondary and postsecondary transnational students of color whose educational and social experiences span the US, the Caribbean, and India. She examines how students understand and transact with language ideologies to narrate themselves and others as literate people and to position themselves and others as holders of differential social and political rights to different nation states.
